A very happy republic day, readers. My daughter gave a nice gift to me when I got back from work last night. Here it is:

I wonder what I shall tell her as she grows up about her nation, the pluses: An amazing philosophy, A resilient population, A stable economy, A great culture, A working democracy, A world “soft power” and the minuses: One of the most corrupt places, A bad political class, Lack of civic sense. I guess these pluses and minuses are immaterial. What matters is probably that we are here in Bharat, we like to be here, and would prefer not to be anywhere else.
